In 1787 Mr. Peters rose to the post of Spec Collector as well as Judge and Magistrate. He had two assistants. One of them had his place of work in Murshidabad district of India and the other had his place of work in Natore district of Bangladesh. This means that at that time the same person was performing administration, revenue and judicial duties.
In 1793, the offices of Judge and Collector were separated, the Civil Court was converted into a District Judge's Court and the post of District Judge was created.
It is known from Rajshahi District Gazetteer of 1916 that there was 1 district and session judge in Rajshahi district at that time. He was also the District and Sessions Judge of Malda District, India. But his headquarters was in Rajshahi.
In March 1864, under the supervision of the French Executive Engineer Mr. ESB Pereira, the work on the Rajshahi Judiciary Court's heritage building began and was completed in August 1865.

As per information received on 7.12.2003 there is one District and Sessions Judge in Rajshahi. There were three additional District and Sessions Judges under him. But due to transfer of 1 additional district and session judge to Gazipur, currently the number of additional district and session judge is two. Sub and Assistant Sessions Judge two, Sub Judge (Finance and Debt Court) 1, Senior Assistant Judge (Rajshahi Sadar) 1, Senior Assistant Judge (Additional Sadar) 1. But currently 1 District and Sessions Judge, 03 Additional District and Sessions Judges, 03 Joint District and Sessions Judges, 04 Senior Assistant Judges and 07 Assistant Judges are working.
